Dog House Doors

Finding the Right Dog House Door

If you’re thinking about building a dog house, or have an existing dog house, you may be interested in adding a dog house door. If you live in certain areas of the world, where the climate is very mild, you may not be interested in dog house doors. When in Hawaii, I noticed that even the hospitals don’t have doors since the climate is so pleasant. But, if you live in an area that has more severe weather, this may be an important element when building a dog house.

There are a number of types of doors available. The size and shape of the door you need will be determined by the shape and size of the door opening. You can buy many of these doors on Amazon. You can also build your own doghouse door.

The actual door may simply consist of vinyl strips or a solid vinyl flap. It could also be a solid plastic or wood door. These seem to work well in most weather conditions. Dogs may be hesitant in entering their home if the door is not one that you can see through. If your doghouse is located in an area where very severe, or extreme temperatures exist, you may want to build an insulated dog house. When you have these weather conditions, you may want to purchase or build an insulated dog house door.

If you don’t yet have dog house plans, there are many plans available online. If you don’t know how to build a dog house, that is the best route to go. You can get step by step instructions on how to construct a really comfortable doghouse for your favorite pet.

There are some very innovative dog house doors on the market. You can find several different types of electronic doors. Some of these are power doors, and even smart doors, which use RFID (radio frequency ID) technology. These doors can keep out unwanted animals, but will allow yours to go in and out as they like.

When finding dog house blueprints, you may want to find plans that include a dog house door.

With most people staying in their houses only a few years, buying cheaper doors just makes sense. If you can save a grand putting cheaper doors in your house, then that's a grand you can stick in the bank. Would I buy cheap doors if it was my retirement home? Heck no, but for a house I'll just be in a couple of years, it doesn't really matter.

I'm kind of on the Local Door Guy's side. I didn't want cheap doors in my house, so I went and talked to a couple of cabinet makers in town, and they both quoted me a price that was only about 20% higher than home Depot. So, I guess you could say I ended up getting cheap custom doors that are a whole lot better than the mass produced cheap doors at Home Depot, for just a few dollars more.

Yeah, the Home Depot doors may not cost as much as custom doors, but I can guarantee you that the crap you got at Home Dumpo won't last you anywhere near as long as a custom door built by a craftsman, nor will it look as good.

Enjoy your doors...

I got some exterior full length glass doors at Home Depot. They weren't the best, but they also didn't cost me an arm and a leg like the custom door guy in town wanted. I didn't check Lowes' glass exterior doors, because Lowes is just too far from my house to make it even worth checking on prices.
